Typical Application
 

1. Household fuel: n-Butane is mixed with propane and used as liquefied petroleum gas for home heating and as a fuel in lighters and portable butane gas stoves.

2. Industrial raw materials: n-butane can be used as a raw material for cracking to produce ethylene. Under the action of a catalyst, it can be dehydrogenated to produce butene, isobutylene and butadiene, and oxidized to produce acetic acid, maleic anhydride, acetaldehyde, etc.

3. Chemical synthesis: n-butane can be isomerized to isobutane under the action of sulfuric acid or anhydrous hydrofluoric acid.

4. Dewaxing Agent: In the petroleum refining process, n-butane is used as a dewaxing agent.

5. Gasoline octane number improver: The reaction of n-butane and isobutylene can produce isooctane, which is used as an automobile octane number improver.

6. Refrigerant: used in the production of industrial refrigerants and air propellants.
